Physician Assistants are formally trained to assist in the diagnosing and preventative health care of patients, working under the supervision of a licensed physician. Many people who are interested in this career aren't sure where to start. Here are a few tips for launching your physician assistant career.
Check out local programs. Most Physician Assistant programs are at community and vocation schools. You can also find these programs at military training centers. Typically, completing this program will take about two years attending full-time.
Shadow a Physician Assistant. If you're unsure about this profession, contact a local hospital and ask if you can shadow a professional. This will give you the exposure needed to determine if it's the right career for you.
Contact your state for certification requirements. Every state has different certification requirements, but generally you'll need to pass an examination and demonstrate your skills.
Partner with a recruiting firm. Once you've graduated from your program, check out staffing firms that specialize in physician assistant jobs. Companies like Clinical One specialize in this profession, making it easier to find employment.
